Another week, another hit lecture from the folks at AIGA. Tony Brook and Adrian Shaughnessy (author of the indispensable, How to be a Graphic Designer without losing your soul) came to talk about their latest venture, UNIT EDITIONS a small publishing company and their first book: Studio Culture. Both very eloquent and generous with their knowledge. The book is more than just a collection of photographs of other people’s workspaces–it explores what it means to be a part of a studio, what different kinds there are and contains great insights from people who run them.

Mad about Nendo

AIGA held a member workshop called Print to Web at the Museum of Art and Design (MAD). It was one of the better lectures this year–the speakers were well prepared (no rambling), lots of pertinent information was shared AND they even sent us a follow-up email with useful links and books to help us along. Awesome. After being thoroughly satisfied with the lecture, I still had some time to wander around the museum. Having seen the Paper show (SLASH, I highly recommend seeing it), I went straight to the new exhibition on the second floor and WOW. As soon as you get off the elevator, you will see a wonderful installation by the Japanese company NENDO. They have five or six of their Fade-out chairs on display, and for further drama, they covered the floor (approx. 12 x 8 ft) with white linoleum. Some hardworking (if woeful) interns stuck little white sticker dots that originate from the edge of the linoleum and spread out two or three feet. The effect is that of freshly fallen snow. And it was breathtaking

Fellow Brooklyn Flea vendor and illustrator, Jane Buck has just opened a beautiful new store in Red Hook!! Her store is called Foxy and Winston and its located at 392 Van Brunt Street Brooklyn. It’s open noon to 6pm Wednesday to Sunday. Lesgow!
